In 1965, Wonkwang Educational Foundation only for early childhood, secondary and higher education was established, under the Spirit of Korean native religion Won-Buddhism and educational ideology of Korea. Since its establishment, it has been continuously grown to have Wonkwang Digital University, Wonkwang University and Wonkwang Health Science University.
These educational institutions has focused on human resources development to serve the local communities and the nation. They has done great deal in Korea education realm.
Specially, it established medical institutions such as Wonkwang University Hospital, Korean Medicine Hospital and Dental Hospital to embody the bioethics of “JeSaengEuSe” from Won-Buddhism which means ‘with medicine, heal the world'.
Wonkwang Digital University (WDU), established as a cyber university in 2002, leads the K-wellbeing culture that pursues open education and lifelong education based on the Higher Education Act of the Republic of Korea. WDU now operates a graduate school and 17 departments in 3 undergraduate schools. WDU as cyber university based upon high education technology, attempts to provide the best educational service with the highest quality of educational contents, in the optimal learning environment, Thus, students can access with any device such as a PC, tablet, or smart-phone anytime and anywhere.
The most outstanding specialized-department university out of 21 cyber universities in Korea is WDU. Its specialization lies in curriculum on the foundation of well-being, health, and culture as the absolute essentials for the happy life. Operating King Sejong Institute in Phonsavan in Laos, Moscow in Russia and Korean Language &Culture Center in New Zealand! In July 2022, King Sejong Institute in Tampere, Finland, opened. Now, King Sejong Institutes of WDU are becoming a place for foreigners to achieve their dreams through learning Korean culture. WDU has offered students overseas training programs of departments in the countries such as India and China to foster global competent leaders responsible for the changing international society.
Besides, WDU have managed overseas volunteer Program in the countries such as Mongolia, Nepal, and Laos and so on. With this program, WDU have served as the global citizens to practice sharing and caring wherever help in need.
